Dwarka Expressway

The eagerly awaited Dwarka Expressway, an extensive infrastructure venture linking Dwarka in Delhi to Kherki Daula in Gurugram, is making substantial progress toward its culmination.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and project contractors have indicated that the Delhi segment of the 27.6-kilometer expressway is nearing 80% completion. Notably, specific sections may open to traffic as early as February 2024, with the entire project expected to be fully operational by August 2024.

Overview and Advancement of the Project:

Cost and Segments: The project, valued at Rs 9,000 crore, is being executed in four phases, with the initial two in Delhi and the remaining duo in Gurugram. The Delhi segments encompass Shiv Murti to Bijwasan and Bijwasan to the Haryana border. In Gurugram, the sections span from the Haryana border to Basai, and from Basai to Cloverleaf near Kherki Daula.

Imminent Opening of Gurugram Section: As per recent announcements by the Gurugram administration, the Gurugram leg (phases three and four) is scheduled to open for traffic by the conclusion of February 2024.

Noteworthy Achievements and Future Plans: Tunnel Completion: A substantial eight-lane tunnel from Samalkha to Mahipalpur, a part of Phase One, has been successfully finished. Civil work is completed, with ongoing electrical and mechanical installations.

Flyovers and Interchanges: In Phase Two, two significant flyovers and an interchange near Bharthal are ready for operation. Key structures at Urban Extension Road (UER) 2 and Bharthal are approaching completion.

Enhanced Connectivity Initiatives: Concurrently with the Dwarka Expressway project, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is preparing to renovate two pivotal arterial stretches connecting National Highway-8 (NH-8) and Dwarka Expressway. The redevelopment aims to alleviate traffic congestion, decongest Old Gurgaon, and enhance overall connectivity. The identified stretches include IFFCO Chowk to Mahavir Chowk and Old Railway Road to Dwarka Expressway via Basai.

Conclusion: The impending completion of the Dwarka Expressway’s Delhi segment and the anticipated opening of key sections in Gurugram mark a substantial stride forward in augmenting transportation infrastructure and connectivity in the region. As these developments transpire, the project aligns with the broader objectives of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and contributes to the economic and developmental progress of the region.
