The department of town and country planning (DTCP) continued its assault on illegal construction in Gurugram on Monday, sealing 21 residences in the C-block of Sushant Lok-1 for zoning breaches and illegal commercial activity. According to officials, several of these property owners were operating dental clinics, medical stores, and salons from their properties in contravention of building codes.

Similarly, the DTCP’s enforcement wing delivered notifications to the developers of seven illegal colonies scattered across 35 acres of agricultural property for violating the Urban Area Act. The builders of these communities have been given seven days to respond, failing which the department will demolish the settlements.

Indeed, the government issued show-cause orders to the owners of 60 buildings in Sushant Lok-1 last month for a variety of breaches. The government had requested that property owners obtain approval for commercial activity in the notices, but the owners had ignored the request.

RS Batth, the district town planner (enforcement), stated the property owners had been operating dentistry clinics, chemist stores, property offices, showrooms, and other businesses without a license from the relevant authority. “Only after the property owners seek approval will the buildings be desealed,” he said.

The agency also conducted an inspection of the Vyapar Kendra market and issued a warning to retailers regarding encroachments in the passage and common areas.
Mr. Batth stated of the seven illegal colonies in Farukhnagar that offenders took advantage of the development prohibition to build unlicensed colonies and plan. “According to department regulations, no colony can be created without first obtaining a license from the department.” The department has given the developers until January 5 to respond, failing which demolition drives will begin on January 15,” he stated.
