In an endeavour to enhance road safety and minimize accidents, Gurgaon’s District Road Safety Committee has taken significant steps to transform National Highway 48 (NH-48) into a ‘no honking zone’ from the Sarhaul border to Kherki Toll. This decision aims to curtail noise pollution and ensure a smoother traffic flow on this vital route.

Focus on Noise Reduction

Installation of Clear Signage: Key to Execution

For the effective execution of this initiative, the installation of prominent signboards designating the ‘no honking zone’ is crucial. Additional Deputy Commissioner Hitesh Kumar Meena stressed that these signboards should be placed every 200 meters along the designated stretch. Swift and accurate implementation is of utmost importance to combat noise pollution effectively within the city.

Collaboration with Pollution Control Board

To further this cause, Meena highlighted the necessity of collaboration with the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB). This collaboration aims to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of noise pollution and to ensure seamless policy implementation within their respective jurisdictions.

Urgent Road Maintenance and Safety Measures

Addressing immediate concerns, Meena directed officials to promptly address the issue of potholes resulting from recent rains. Several areas require attention, including IFFCO Chowk to Mahaveer Chowk, Golf Course Extension Road, Rao Gajraj Singh Marg in Udyog Vihar, and the road from Palam Vihar to Sector 5.

Holistic Approach to Road Safety

During the meeting, Jitendra Singh Gahlawat, District Transport Officer and Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority, presented an extensive agenda comprising 22 points that encompass road safety and the safe school transport policy.

Reviewing Entry and Exit Points on NH-48

Notably, a comprehensive review of approximately a hundred entry and exit points along NH-48, from Sarhaul Border to Sidhrawali Border, has been initiated to bolster traffic safety measures. ADC Meena instructed NHAI officials to compile a detailed report outlining progress and actions taken at each identified point.

Cracking Down on Violations

The meeting also addressed concerns related to the safe school transport policy. Meena directed sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) and relevant officials to revoke fitness certificates for buses found in violation of these regulations. Persistent offenders will face the impoundment of their vehicles as a consequence.

Comprehensive Traffic Management

Discussions extended to road repair projects, with ongoing work at IMT Manesar Chowk. Moreover, plans to install traffic signals at specific locations within the next month were disclosed. The meeting tackled various traffic management concerns, including introducing a dedicated left-turn lane at Jail Chowk, strategically placing signboards to mitigate heavy vehicle noise in Farrukhnagar, and relocating Labor Chowk near Aardee City

Aiming for Safer Roads

These multifaceted measures underscore Gurgaon’s commitment to fostering safer roads, reducing noise pollution, and promoting responsible traffic behavior. By implementing these initiatives, the city aims to create a more harmonious and secure environment for all commuters and residents alike.
