Ceiling swords hanging on numerous houses in Gurugram’s NCR has prompted the issuance of notices to 400 landlords. Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has recognized the prevalence of commercial activities in residential sectors, leading to a strict stance against such practices.

Commercial Activities in Residential Areas

Gurugram, Haryana – In a bid to maintain the sanctity of residential sectors, Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has embarked on a mission to address the prevalent issue of commercial activities in residential houses. Notices have been issued to 400 landlords across 16 sectors, signalling a strong intention to curb these practices. Failure to comply with the notices may result in the sealing of the affected properties.

Reasons behind Ceiling Sword Hangings:

The phenomenon of ceiling swords hanging on hundreds of houses has raised concerns among the residents of Gurugram. This alarming trend stems from the unauthorized operation of commercial establishments within residential areas. A wide range of businesses, including PG accommodations, clinics, insurance offices, play schools, boutiques, gyms, and sports academies, have been discovered to be operating in violation of residential zoning regulations.

HUDA Takes Action:

With the aim of rectifying this issue, HUDA’s Estate Office-1, headed by Vikas Dhanda, has proactively initiated measures to curtail commercial activities in the affected sectors. Notices have been dispatched to the landlords of 16 sectors, urging them to cease their commercial operations promptly. The Estate Office-1 has been persistent in its efforts to ensure compliance, as prior notices and requests for closure were met with disregard.

Sealing Houses: A Last Resort:

In the face of non-compliance, HUDA is left with no choice but to resort to the sealing of houses. The mounting complaints from sector residents, who have been inconvenienced by the unabated commercial activities, necessitate swift action. To prevent the continuance of such practices, the department has instructed the commencement of surveys in various colonies, aiming to identify and halt similar illegal activities.

Survey Teams on the Move:

The District Town Planner Enforcement Department has assembled dedicated teams to conduct surveys in different builder colonies across Gurugram. These teams, composed of Junior Engineers (JE) and Field Technicians (FT), are responsible for inspecting residential houses, scrutinizing commercial ventures, and identifying any illegal constructions. Reports will be prepared based on their findings, facilitating further actions.

Divided Responsibilities:

To streamline the survey process, the teams have been assigned specific areas within Gurugram. The first team, led by JE Akash and FT Paras, will focus on DLF Phase-3 to 5, Sushant Lok Phase-1 to 3, South City-1, Malibu Town, and RD City. The second team, headed by FT Prashant and JE Rajan, will survey Vatika, Palam Vihar, Saraswati Kunj, Vipul World, BPTP 102-102A, and Sun City Project. Lastly, the third team, led by FT Rohan and JE Naresh, will concentrate on DLF Phase-1 to 2, South City-2, Mayfield Garden, and other areas.
