The Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) has taken a significant decision to demolish 1,088 homes designated for economically weaker sections (EWS) in Sector 47. The aim is to monetize the prime land on which these homes were constructed. This move comes as the land is strategically located adjacent to the district centre, with a proposed Metro station in close proximity. Officials familiar with the matter have revealed that a high-rise complex will be built in Sector 9 to provide alternative accommodation for the EWS allotters.
Background:
Constructed in 2010, the EWS homes in Sector 47 have remained unallocated due to several issues related to the eligibility of beneficiaries. Over the past decade, these residences have remained vacant, awaiting rightful allocation. Recognizing this challenge, HSVP officials have identified approximately five acres of land in Sector 9 for the development of a multi-storey group housing complex. This project aims to accommodate the EWS allotters who were originally intended for the homes in Sector 47.
Monetization of Prime Land:
Vikas Dhanda, the estate officer one at Gurugram HSVP, highlights the exceptional value of the prime land in Sector 47. Spanning about 18 to 20 acres and in close proximity to the district centre, this land holds immense potential for residential projects. Dhanda further explains that the land will be auctioned for group housing purposes, while the EWS allotters will find their new homes in the upcoming Sector 9 project. Additionally, a large mixed-use commercial project by IKEA is set to enhance the overall value and appeal of the area.
Efforts to Verify Beneficiaries:
In a related development, the senior town planner of Gurugram has requested the Citizen Resource Information Department of the state government to verify the documents of EWS allottees. This crucial step aims to ensure that the rightful beneficiaries are accurately identified and their homes can be allocated promptly. The department reports a significant demand for the EWS flats, with 18,000 families having applied for 6,200 units in the category.
The decision by HSVP to demolish the unallocated EWS homes in Sector 47 and monetize the prime land marks a significant step towards optimizing urban development in Gurugram. With plans to construct a high-rise complex in Sector 9 to accommodate the EWS allotters, this initiative ensures that the deserving beneficiaries will finally have access to suitable housing. As efforts to verify the documentation progress, the anticipation for timely allocation of flats continues to grow, paving the way for a positive transformation in the lives of economically weaker sections.
