Gurgaon’s Vatika Chowk underpass: The Vatika Chowk underpass is ready for the public, and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will open it on November 3rd. This 825-meter-long underpass, built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), cost 109 crores and includes access roads on both sides.
When it’s up and running, the underpass will make life easier for many people heading to Faridabad and NH-8. It will also improve connections between the newly developed sectors along the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR).
NHAI officials suggest that Union Minister and local MP Rao Inderjit Singh may attend the underpass inauguration. Vatika Chowk is a bustling junction where vehicles from various directions like Rajiv Chowk on NH-8, Sohna, Ghata Chowk on Gurgaon-Faridabad road, and Narsinghpur on NH-8 or the Dwarka Expressway converge.

The underpass was part of GMDA’s plan to transform SPR from Ghata to NH-8 into a hassle-free route through the Sohna elevated road. The project received administrative approval from the CM in July last year, and NHAI agreed to take on the construction work.
The two-way underpass was originally planned to be finished by June this year, but heavy and frequent rainfalls slowed down the work. Delays in securing funds also added to the project’s sluggish pace, according to officials.
Last week, Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav checked the underpass and directed the relevant officials to complete all required procedures within the set timeline.
“The city’s civic authorities have been working on several infrastructure projects to improve transportation. The underpass is a significant part of these efforts and will be available for public use after its inauguration. When it’s operational, this underpass will make it easier to travel from Golf Course Road Extension to NH-8, and it will also relieve congestion at Vatika Chowk, making travel faster,” Yadav explained to TOI.
NHAI officials are making final preparations for the November 3 event. The construction work is finished, and they are now focusing on beautification and maintenance. They are also conducting safety checks and tests to ensure that the structure is safe for traffic. As for the electrical work, NHAI has handled it, but GMDA needs to connect to DHBVN for streetlights, according to the official.
GMDA has applied to the power connection, and a DHBVN official mentioned that they will initiate the power supply “within a day or two.” Residents have expressed their satisfaction, anticipating that this development will alleviate the traffic congestion at this junction, providing much-needed relief.
